NEW-TECH® Doors
Standard Prefit Door Program

Phoenix Door Mfg. Co.'s standard pre-fit program provides oversized jambs, mortised for 1/4" radius hinges standard (square corner available), and bored and mortised for lockset. A three-degree bevel is machined on the lock side of single doors. For paired doors with astragals, the active door (door without astragal) is beveled. For paired doors without astragal, both doors are beveled. Jamb legs are dadoed for the head jamb and mortised for the hinges and strike. For interior doors, jamb legs are slightly longer than the door. Units are shipped knocked down without stops attached. Applied stops are available at an up charge if requested. Hinges are shipped loose.
We recommend that the installer use one 3" long screw in each jamb hinge in order to reach the trimmer. This will improve long term holding strength and reduce the potential for door sag over time.
Standard prefit package includes the following processes:
- Dado jamb legs
- Bevel door
- Bore for single lock & latch
- Mortise for hinges
Materials supplied with each door:
- Hinge jamb
- Strike jamb
- Head jamb (oversized, cut to size available)
- Door stop (not attached default)
- Hinges (1/4" radius default, square available)
Standard POPLAR interior jamb sizes:
4-9/16", 4-3/4", 5-1/4", 7-1/4"
Standard FJP interior jamb sizes:
3-9/16", 4-9/16", 4-3/4", 4-7/8", 5-1/4", 7-1/4"
Ordering Prefit Doors:
We need the following information:
- Jamb width (thickness of wall).
- Door handing.
- Active door on paired doors - which is the door that opens first.
- Doors with mirrors or raised moulding one side only - specify which side is to have the mirror or raised moulding. Example: mirror on hinge pin side.
- For doors with louvers, specify hinge side louvers up or hinge side louvers down.

Prefitting & Machining For Hardware
Handing:

Handing determines the direction of the door swing. One of the easiest ways to specify handing is to stand in the doorway with your back against the hinge side, facing the strike side of the jamb. If you wish the door to swing to your right, it is a right hand door. Swing to the left and it is a left hand door.

In some applications, the lock hardware orientation needs to be specified with the handing - to let the door hanger know which way to install the lock set, or with panic hardware and many mortise locks, because the prep is different than a basic bored lockset. To spec the handing on these doors, orient yourself as above. If the lock side of the hardware is to be on the hinge pin side of the door, call out the reverse handing. So a left hand door swing door would be called out as a right hand reverse.

For door pairs that will use flush bolts, the handing is determined the same way. Just specify which leaf (door) is active (the leaf with the handle hardware) and which is inactive (the leaf with the flush bolt).
To spec the drawing to the right - Active leaf: Left hand, Inactive leaf: Right Hand.

Beveling:
Book doors are not beveled. Beveling is at 3° and removes 3/16" from the requested door width. Doors can be beveled one side (standard) or both sides (special order).

Locks:
Lock bore locations are called out from the top of the door to the centerline of the bore. Mortise locks are called out to the centerline on the template. Shown is a basic bored lock.
Required for bored locks are:
Face bore diameter [ "A" ] - Default is Ø 2-1/8"
Backset [ "B" ] - Default is 2-3/8"
Bolt bore diameter [ "C" ] - Default is Ø 1"
Face plate size [ "D" & "E" ] - Default is 1" x 2-1/4"
Corner Radius [ "F" ] - Default is 1/4"
(Defaults given are for the prefit door program)
The lock rail, lock panel, or the circle center line of the various door designs are located at a nominal 37-1/2" from the bottom of the door (BEFORE any carpet cuts made to the bottom rail). A no charge option of the lock rail/panel doors at 36" can be requested but there is an added setup charge for prefitting for the 36" lock rail/panel. The default used in the prefit door program centers the handle bore to the lock rail/panel. See an example.
If requesting the optional bored dead lock (default dimensions same as the handle bore), the default location is 5-1/2" (c-line to c-line) above the handle bore.

Astragals & Jambs
Astragals:

Shown are the standard astragals. Be sure to add 3/4" to the jamb width when using a t-astragal - i.e. a pair of 2-6 doors need a jamb 60-3/4" inside width. Astragals are shipped loose.

Flushbolts:
The t-astragal is mortised at the outer edge(s) to receive the flush bolt(s). T-astragals are not attached to the door. Flush bolts are shipped loose.
Jambs:

Shown are three of our more popular jambs. Kerfs for weather stripping and dry wall are available. The default mortise is for a full lip strike.
Sills are pre-cut and rabbeted on exterior jamb sets.
Doorstops are normally shipped loose for field installation. This allows the screws securing the jamb in the door opening to be concealed beneath the stop. The stop attached is an available option.
